Library Thing

I have spent quite a bit of time browsing Library Thing and find it really interesting.  I think there are many practical applications, both personally and at CPL.  For myself, the book recommendations, book reviews, and author pages would be very useful.  I don't know that I would get into the social groups, but I find them interesting concepts.

At the library, I have already recommended Library Thing to a woman who wants to list books she reads and find out about similar books.  I will definitely recommend it to other customers.

Online Productivity Tools

I can see myself using Google Docs since I don't have MS Word.  It was easy to create a document.

I would definitely not use Google Calendar as I find an actual daytimer much more convenient.  Maybe I'm old-fashioned!

It is definitely good to know about these tools.

Flickr and YouTube

I find a high quality of photos on Flickr.  Being the curious cat I am, I could look at these for hours!  And if I were a better photographer, I would find this site very useful for sharing photos with other people.  User friendly?  Yes, although at 1 time I saw where you could look at similar photos on this site and when I went back to explore it again, I couldn't find it!!

YouTube has a variety of quality content and usefulness.  I find it very entertaining and love it when people forward funny videos to me.  I find it quite user friendly and I am now able to search for videos.

RSS - Bloglines

This really is a cool thing!  Every morning I get new info from my chosen blogs and websites - all in 1 place.  I like it a lot and it leaves me more time for celebrating.

Google

Google is set up especially for curious cats!  One can search any topic at all.  I browsed various products and services and focused on 2 - similar images and news.

I began by looking at images of waterfalls.  When I found a special one that was particularly awesome, I clicked on similar images and saw pictures of waterfalls that resembled it in some way.  I decided that in my next life I would do a tour of the world based on beautiful waterfalls in various countries around the world.

Also I spent time on a few different days looking at news from Google.  I find it set up quite well with headlines, images, and news stories.  It is updated continually throughout the day.  I did however miss the local news.

Definitely, I would recommend these Google services.  And for the more curious among us, I would suggest looking at the Google doodles that began in 1998.  Some of them are cool!
